Q: I have located a used set of headers for a1982 F-body and need to know if they will fit I was told no?
I called the Eldebrock and they said they would not fit. Has anyone tried to fit a set of 89 up headers on a 82 F body

I would like to buy a cheap f-body mostly a camaro within 200 miles of kansas city mostly a 4th generation and i have around 2000$ dollars and i would prefer the z28 anyone out there willing to sell

Q: Where to find suspension parts for a f body mopar?
I have been searching to rebuild the front end on my 78 plymouth volare but cant find a kit that contains ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings, bumpers, etc. anyone know a site that has these?Thanks

Q: Is it possibly to swap a BBC(454) into an 80s f-body that had a 305?
If its possible what do i need to do it and whats an estimate.

A: You don’t need to clearance the strut towers. In fact any denting or cutting of them is BAD.

You will need big block swap headers $300-400

BBC running engine.

Welded in subframe connetors. Probbly a welded in 4 point roll bar min.

The unibody is weak in these cars and flexes with the stock 305’s

Your rear end will need to be replaced with a 12 bolt or ford 9″.. No use trying to upgrade that 7.5″ 10 bolt. Been there, done that.. Broke 2 with a 505 HP 355 small block

The T5 man trans and stock 700r4 trans will not handle the power.. Need a built 700r4 or a th-350 or th-400 (th-400 is my pick)

Then you will need a way to hook the torque arm up to the th-400 trans. Hurst makes a $125 swap kit for that.. Spohn has a kit.

Or you could just do what I ended up having to do.. To gain the needed traction on my 355 sbc I had to go to a saddle mount trans tunnel short jegster torque arm.. It helped traction alot, and a big plus is with it, the torque arm does not mount o transmission.. So any trans can be used with out that worry.

Now for the hood clearance.. You can get a fiberglass cowl type hood, cut a hole in stock hood and rivit hood scoop on.. Or if you measure everything just right, you can fit a 2″ tall air filter under the stock flat hood.

You need a short intake like a performer, 1.5″ drop base air cleaner, 2″ tall filter, etc.

Now prob with the short filter and large drop base is it only gives you 1/2″ of room from top of breather to top of carb. This can choke te engine for air as the rpms goes past 4000 or so.

You will need an aftermarket alum 2 core rad. I’m running a $170 summit house brand 31″x19″ rad in my 1988 camaro. These rads do not have a trans cooler built into them so you will have to buy a good trans cooler to add to it.

I’m running 2 trans coolers on mine. One of the stacked plate types from B&M (best design) and 1 large tube/fin type

A good elec fan will help to cool engine better plus give you more room to work with. You will need 3400+ cfm air flow from fan though.

The front springs, suspension is fine. The BBC only weighs 110 lbs more than the SBC.. This will lower the front end by about 1/4″ to 1/2″

Now the satock rear suspension will work but it’s trash if you really want to hook and not spin like crazy.. I had to go to spohn adjustable controll arms, control arm lowering brackets, adjustable spohn panhard rod, stiffer rear springs, KYB AGX adjustable rear shocks, air lift drag bags in the rear springs,

Do it and do it right, the price will run up quick. I have over $16,000 in mine counting buying car for $550,and building the engine… All of that is parts prices.. No labor, I do all my own work

Q: Third generation F-Body. How do I get more horsepower?
I have a 1987 Pontiac Trans Am with a 5.7 liter engine. It makes 230 horsepower stock. I have a performance chip in it which adds like 10 horsepower but I want to be pushing at least 260/270. Any ideas? I prefer to hear from members who have third gen f-bodies.

A: a set of heads and a good cam would get that power easily.

or yes a crate motor.. tho not needed.

you could do gearing. it wont add power but will make it quicker

Q: Do 80s f body comaros with 10 bolt diff have full floating or semi floating axles?
How are the axles mounted then?

A: Neither they are held in with c-clips and the flange is part of the axle.

Q: Will 08 corvette stock wheel and tire sizes fit an 02 f body trans am?
i just want to know for sure before i buy them.

A: im 99 percent sure that gtos fbodys and vettes 93- now all match up

Q: Anyone know if the wheel speed sensor is a press in on the hub of an f-body?
I have a 1995 Pontiac Firebird and the right front wheel speed sensor went out. The only way to buy a front wheel speed sensor is to buy it with the hub attached. It is seems stupid to change the whole thing when there is nothing wrong with the hub. Please help.

A: the speed sensor is in the hub and not removable since the bearing is a one piece unit..sorry

actually its early indication that the bearing is starting to dry up..

but if you dont mind the light and the lack of abs ..you can go without changing it…

Q: Can a truck 454 fit into an f body camaro and bolt to a 700r4?
humm maybe im better off buying a second one for cheap and using the body

A: it will fit, but it will be tight. You may have to remove the power brake booster, and change the master cylinder to a manual type because the truck block has a higher deck height than the car block.

LEXUS IS-F is build in japan, for all you people out there, THIS car is not included in the recall.

Q: What exactly makes a 1972 camaro an “F-body”?
Everywhere i look i see “F-body” body this and that, but no where does it explain what makes it an “F-body” the only thing i could come up with is if it was made in Flint and the VIN is an F.

A: It’s just the chassis design and letter code for that design

GM lables the platform (chassis, suspension) with a letter code.

The F body is the mid size, RWD, unibody chassis used to build the camaro and firebird.

All 67-02 camaros and firebirds are “F body” cars

GM used the same chassis, suspension, etc on a few cars in their line up. Like chevy camaro and pont. firebird are almost the same car.. The 80’s chevy monte carlo and the buick regal are almost the same car.

Heres some of the platform codes

A: F body is just the code for the platform (chassis) that they built the car on..

All camaros and firebirds are F body cars.. They both share the SAME chassis, and no other cars but the camaro and firebird used that chassis platform.

F body is not a year range like a couple people said.

Its 1967 to 2002

1st gen f body would be 1967 to 69 camaro/firebird
Second gen F body is 70-81 camaro/firebird
Third gen F body is 82-92 camaro/firebird
4th gen F body is 93-02 camaro/firebird

Q: What bolt-ons does it take to get an LS1 F-body into the 11s without using nitrous?

A: There is a lot of factors that come into play when it comes to modding an LS1. The most common probs will be DA (density altitude) and outside weather conditions heat and humidity. With all that aside back to your question I would say that with good conditions a F-Body with some sort of intake, full exhaust (headers all the way back), LS6 intake manifold if your F-Body is 98-00, a good heads and cam package, a torque converter (for auto tranny), and a set of gears in the rear end would probably get you in the 11’s. Obviously this isn’t set in stone and you could achieve your goal of 11 sec 1/4 mile with other set-ups but this would be the most common way of doing it. It worked for me.
