I am in the market for a new car but I refuse to buy from a dealer; mainly because I used to work for one..! I went onto Craigslist and my local newspaper but was unable to find anything. Most of the cars there are now all dealer ads or scams from what I have seen.
I know about eBaymotors but I am really looking for a website or paper where I can search a large number of vehicles locally to my city. (In the U.S.)
A: I always use Craigslist and choose for sale by owner not by dealer. You can also try auctions in your area. Either way I would definetely check the Vehicle History first. I always use CHEAPVINSEARCH.COM for Vehicle History Reports, they are really cheap (only 9.99) , fast and very accurate information!

A: If you have the cash to purchase this car, hit the used car managers of dealers near you, you are the holy grail of buyers–one who is actually looking for a manual transmission, these are generally just dead as far as wholesale goes and somewhat hard to retail. tell them you want to buy it with a drive first. I know I let sales persons put together used car buyers and new car trade-ins to help consummate more sales. I couldn’t have been the only one that practiced it.

A: get a carfax report on it. have a mechanic look at it before you buy it. Try to look for defects mechanically and cosmetically.
look on the interior. ask if the car is a salvage title, meaning that it was totaled, but ifxed up anyway. ask if all the matience was done, and if it was, by a professional, or an ameteur? take a test drive and see if it runs smoothly. ask if there was any body work done to it, even if it was a small detn from a fender bender
if the car has been in an accident, that should lower the price into about almost a half. be sure to invest the 30 dollars and get teh carfax, just to see that he isnt lying. if the matiencing wasnt done.. just leave, because its gonna have lots of problems
but other than that, buying it should be decently simple. good luck!

Q: Where can I find project cars for sale?
The farthest I could go is up to Harrisburg or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the west. Up to White Lake, New York in the north direction. Anywhere in New Jersey and farthest down south would be maybe Georgia. All kinds of salvage cars and projects. I’m looking for a 1967 Shelby GT500, doesn’t matter what condition. I just want that car.
A: Your chances of finding a real GT500 as a project are remote, there aren’t that many of them around and the ones that are are almost all restored already because of their value. If you do find one in rough shape, it will still be expensive if it’s complete and the numbers match, they are very valuable.
You’d be better off trying to find just a 67 mustang fastback and replicating a GT500. If you do it right it can look and perform pretty much the same as a real one, but of course it will never be worth as much. If you want it to drive and enjoy though, that doesn’t matter much. Actually you can make it better in many ways that the original by making it a “resto mod” using modern components like 5 or 6 speed manual instead of 4, disc brakes all around, EFI instead of a carburetor, things like that.
