Q: Mustang Cobra transmission wont shift out of 2nd?
We have a 2003 Cobra mustang, it originally had a 6 speed manual, but after my grandpa lost his leg they changed it to a automatic. Before it broke they rev-ed it really high in second, now it wont shift out of second. What could be wrong, what should I check. I heard that it might be a transmission fuse, is this true?
A: Ive always had problems with 2nd gear in my 96 gt. Most likely the trans will need to be rebuilt but if you dont drive on it they might be able to just replace the 2nd gear part without rebuilding the rest. Goodluck
Btw you should come over and join svtperformance.com. Great site for cobra’s, lots of help there.
Q: Can anyone tell me where i can find a good mustang cobra for under 26K?
I am looking for a mustang cobra or a saleen mustang and I was looking for sites that have really good deals and i was wondering if anyone knew a good site?
A: Hey bro, I own a 2004 silver mustang cobra. I went to Ebay and I bought it 2 years ago with only 6k miles on it for 26,500. It was a phenominal deal for me and the whole process was great! I deffinatley recomend it. Take a look, you can get a really good deal there. At that time I could not find 04 cobras anywhere and they were going for $29,000 to $34,000 in the traders and at the dealers. I found around 10 of them on Ebay and spent about 3 weeks bidding on different ones and finally won mine for that price. It cost me $800 to ship it from Pittsburg to Arizona. It would have been $500 but I had it shipped in an indoor, air conditioned carrier and had it shipped express so it only took 5 buisness days instead of 10-14.
Q: I have a 2005 ford focus zx3, should I put a V8 engine. I was thinking about a cobra mustang engine.?
How much would a 93 mustang cobra engine cost, and an estimate on the mechanic services. Would i need to make any other acomidations for the bigger engine.
A: That has got to be the funniest question I’ve seen in a long time. Ok we’ll start with the obvious. You’re trying to basically convert your front wheel drive focus into a rear wheel drive muscle compact. The first problem is fitting the engine. You’ll likely have to cut into the firewall, and then change the underbody to accept the larger transmission. Then you’ll need to get a custom driveshaft made and mount a rear end. Making custom mounts for the engine, transmission and rear end will probably run you a LOT. Then you’ll have to fit all of the accomidating accessories and cooling system along with it….do completely custom wiring and get a Cobra ECU and probably have to modify that. Even with perfect wiring none of your stock gauges will work so you’ll need custom gauges for EVERYTHING. All in all, you could easily spend over 15 grand on this and still only have 240 hp, and a car that is completely undrivable because it was never meant to be rear wheel drive. Or….for 3-5 grand you can get a turbo kit and fuel system and clutch and be making 300hp…with no bad side effects. Look into that instead.
Q: What will my 1998 mustang cobra run?
I have a 1998 Ford Mustang cobra svt that has a 4.6 dohc 305hp and all i did to it was put 373 gears in it, put a bbk H pipe with magnaflow catback exhaust which opens it up and a JLT cold air intake. What will my 0-60 be and what will be my quarter mile time?
A: your engine was rated at 305hp at the crank and perhaps turns out about 275-280 at the wheels (cold air intake and exhaust adds a little power at the crank, but really need headers and re tune of engine management system to get the increase to the rear wheels).
3.73 gears help….so your 0-60 time may be in the range of 5.8 (which was rated time of a new 98 cobra….but your engine is of course older now so and maybe a touch over 6 sec.)
in terms of the 1/4 you will run in the range of this guy, his convert is generally slower, but he is running with a chip
http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustang-Timeslip-12822.html
you can get into the 12’s on a stock engine’s internals…like this guy
http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustang-Timeslip-6503.html
but you will require short shot of nitrous.
he got into low 12’s with nitrous, minor engine modifications and better exhaust set up than yours, plus he is running 4.10’s
the other answerers (especially Sandy G) are seriously clueless and have no idea what it takes to run in the 11’s
cheers 04 cobra , built out-supercharged, 2.3 whipple blower at
15 p.s.i. measured at 575rwHP on a dyno (on 94 octane street gas)

Q: Where can i find a 1978 Mustang Cobra II engine?
i am thinking about buying a 1978 Mustang Cobra II, but it doesnt have an engine. and i cannot find one online. so i am asking you all for help on finding one please!!
thank you and have a God Blessed day
A: If you want a stock or any engine I would choose carefully as this is going to be an investmant in the long road, check out the Mustang forum websites for some great ideas and options that will help you along the way.
Then keep your eye out for any old cars that sit around in peoples yards might get a good motor, try local junk yards, or spend a little and order a Jasper motor, or see what local part stores can get. They sell whole motors and at the least give you an idea on prices.
Q: Is it true that the 2000 V6 Mustang Coupe came with the cobra suspension package?
I have heard off a website that I cant seem to find anymore that the year 2000 Ford Mustang came with the cobra suspension package because that was the year that cobra mustangs took the year off to fix some issues that they had with the 1999 Cobra. Is this true?
A: I own a 1999 Mustang GT and not even that came with a cobra suspension. I wouldnt think that they would spend the money on a 2000 V6. Ive driven a friends 2000 V6 and trust me it did not feel like it had any performance suspension.
Q: How much money is a 1978 King Cobra Mustang Worth?
I have a 78 King Cobra Mustang and would like to know about how much money it would be worth? It is fully restored original on the inside and out. It runs great! I have the original rims but they not on it at the moment. There is not anything wrong with the car. There were only 5,000 of these cars made. Thinking about selling it but don’t want to undersell.
A: It just sold one with 160k careful miles, garaged all the time. I was a great car with fading on the paint and hood decal.
It sold on ebay for $3k and I was a little disappointed as one in worse condition sold for 3500, but I still think its the best place to sell it since there is such a large audience and it’s a low demand car.
Just set your reserve for want you want and then start low. The bidders will set the value.
Q: Where to put posi-trac oil additive in rear axle? 1997 mustang cobra?
need to put posi-trac oil additive in the rear axle of my mustang cobra. Got under there and looked around a little bit but couldnt see where to put it.
Where does it go and any other tips would be great. Thanks!
not seeing it anywhere
is it on the backside or the front side?
whats it look like?
A: It is on the drivers side front section of the rear-end housing, right beside of where the driveshaft is connected to the rear-end. On a level surface, loosen plug with a 1/2 or 3/8 ratchet and short extension (The plug has a square hole in it!) Fill it just until the oil starts coming back out of the hole, then put the plug back in. Done! Good Luck!
Q: What is the difference in the engine of a 1998 mustang cobra and a 1998 gt mustang?
Are the internals different? Cam Specs? Heads or intake? What would i have to do to mod a 1998 gt to make an engine comparable to that of a stock 1998 cobra?
A: Go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang#Fourth_generation_.281994.E2.80.932004.29
and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_SVT_Cobra#1996.E2.80.931998
Q: Difference between Mustang Cobra and Mustang GT?
I don’t mean the new mustang GT’s either, I mean the Mustang Cobra and GT that came out around 2002. The fourth generation. Reason Im asking is Im 16 and getting my first car from a friend. It’s a 2003 Mustang but Im not sure if its a Cobra or a GT, which is better too?
A: 03 Gt is a 2v sohc v8 that will put down around 260hp in a dyno. the 03 Cobra is a supercharged 4v Dohc v8 that puts down around 380hp at the dyno. The cobra has a different hood and front bumper as well as a spoiler that is directly on the trunk and the rear bumper says COBRA on it.
Q: How much horsepower can a stock 1999 mustang cobra engine take?
I have a 1999 cobra and i was wondering how much hp the engine can take with the STOCK RODS AND PISTONS.
A: 400-450 hp. so no more than 8 psi boost on a supercharger on a safe tune
Q: How much money is a 1967 Shelby Mustang Cobra GT500 worth? Are they hard to find?
I heard that Cobra didn’t come until 1968 though, I just put 1967 because that be preferred. However, if Cobra didn’t come until 1968, then my question would pertain to the ‘68 model.
A: The Cobra name was not added to the Shelby Mustang until 1968. However, Shelby Mustangs were built from 1965-1970. A 1967 Shelby GT500 is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Value can be determined by originality, documentation to prove that it is the real thing, color(s), transmission type, and other options.
Sellers are still currently asking top dollar for these cars, but the truth is that their value is down, along with most other collectible muscle cars of the era. Very clean examples have not sold on eBay lately for the $150,000 – $175,000 range and they did not demand these prices at the most recent national auctions. I would expect to realistically pay about $125,000 for a very nicely restored example with some desirable options and color combos.
For 1968, the Shelby Cobra Mustangs brought about $120,000 at auction for pristine, documented examples, though I do not recall any “KR” models being sold. KR’s (for “King of the Road”) usually command more money and convertibles more still as they are more scarce. Still, the value of everything is down given the state of the economy and I think even a KR convertible is probbaly right around $150,000 right now. The 1967 market has always been unpredictable so it’s a bit tough to call. The other years’ value are more predictable.
Production:
1967 GT500 fastback- 2,048 (no convertibles made in 1967*)
1968 KR500 fastback- 933
1968 KR500 convertible – 318
I don’t recall how many GT500 fastbacks and convertibles were made for 1968, I only remember the production numbers for the KR’s. And keep in mind that in 1967 and 1968 you could get Shelby Mustangs with either a small block engine (GT350) or big block engine (GT500). You didn’t ask about the GT350 car so I didn’t go into detail. My answer is long enough and I apologize if it is confusing.
Anyway, hope this helps!
Q: what should a buy a 2002 mustang cobra or a gt and buy a aftermarket supercharger?
Hi im looking to buy sometype of mustang which would you think would be better buys a mustang gt and gettin a supercharger for it or buy a stock cobra? i have found sallen superchargers for around 5k im not looking to invest more than 20g in a a car tho
sorry i was meaning 03
A: I don’t think there is a 2002 Cobra. There is a 2001 which wasn’t supercharged and a 2003 which was.
If you want a supercharged Mustang get one that came built for it and get the 03. Or you can get the GT/01 Cobra and rebuild the engine to handle the supercharger which unless you can do the work yourself is going to cost a lot of money.
Q: How much gear oil in a 1997 Mustang Cobra?
Flushing my gear oil in my cobra. How much to put in to fill to the max?
A: Not sure exactly but I always bought 3 quarts and had some left when I setup gears for people. Somewhere around 2 1/2 would be my guess but not over 3.
Q: should i get a cobra or a GT mustang?
I have another car and i am looking to modify somthing else on the side. I have 6-7K to work with. I could find a 1996-1997 cobra mustang with +80-160K miles or a new model GT with less miles and have more money to modify it. Here is the thing go with the resale value or mods. I would have to yank the engine in the GT to do cams which i would do so at that time i could just rebuild it and port and polish the intake. And the cobra would stay with stock internals and either of them would get either a supercharger or turbo at one time or anther.
A: i’d personally go with the newer gt..
