Q: What used cars are a good idea to purchase at 80,000+ miles?
I’m looking into buying a used car and is a little hesitant about buying cars (other than Honda and Toyota) with 80,000+ miles on it. What other cars would I probably not have a problem with? I would like to drive this car for a while.

A: If the car is less than 6 years old then you should be careful because that means it was run a lot. A clean CarFax would minimize the extent of this wear & tear.

Aside from Honda and Toyota, consider Subaru, Volkswagen and Ford. Lots of Fords are built really tough (Crown Vic, anyone?), and my good friend has an old VW Jetta and she hasn’t run into issues.

Q: How can an international students importing used cars to the US?
I’m an international student in California, and I would like to import my car from Saudi Arabia for at least two years. What are the regulations and rules regarding importing used cars by students to the US?

A: Hope it helps http://popfaves.com/331423/used-car

Q: How much of a discount is there on used cars?
The car I want is $26,000 at the lowest price. If I got it used, how much of a discount could I expect to get? I know this is a vague question because there are so many different variables, but I live in a middle class city and I want a car that is in good condition but it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Also are there any websites that list used cars?

A: There is no ‘discount’. All vehicles lose value as soon as they are not ‘new’. How much depends on what it is , how old it is, and its condition.

The second part of your question: yes there are. ” cars.com” is one.

Q: Are car dealerships able to lease used cars for short periods of time?
Are car dealers able to lease used cars for short periods of time such as 2-5 months? Is it really up to the dealerships discretion? Anyone have any experience or knowledge in this?

A: I’ve never seen this question, but hell yes. They can do what ever they want as long as it generates money.

Q: The best used cars for the environment?
I’m a college student planning on buying my first car. In the past I’ve only had hand-me-downs from my parents or borrowed their cars for things. Now I’m going to need my own car, but since I’m a poor college student I want to buy used. The trouble is, I also want a car that is better for the environment. Hybrids are expensive, so it makes the most sense to find a highly fuel-efficient model from around 2000-2002. What cars fit this description?

A: Flex-fuel ones(cars in actual production)

Q: What would be a good source to look for used cars in Toronto?
Any magazine or website which is recommended and that people use to advertise their used cars?

Also, do you know if canadian cars depreciate quick, meaning, if a car is model 2007 is it likely to be way more cheaper than a new one?

A: Check out autotrader.ca and the Q 107 website, they have cars on there.

Cars drop quick, you will likely be further ahead for buying a 2007.

A 2008 Impala is $25,000
A 2007 Impala is $16,000!

That is $380 a month (including %7 interest) compared to $594 a month for a new one. $213 per month! Plus there will be a year or two of warranty on the car too! Don’t forget the 2007 cars have been on the road since Spring 2006.

Q: What to look out for when buying used cars?
My budget is only limited for used cars, and I have no idea what to check with them when buying (like under the hood) so that I won’t get “cheated” after. I don’t want to be buying the car only to find something broken after a few drives.

Thank you.

A: That’s why you let the professionals do it. Never purchase a used car without having a certified mechanic do a complete mechanical inspection on the vehicle.

As a consumer you must run a VIN check on the car (Carfax, Autocheck) and you can visually inspect the car for cleanliness, rust, dents, broken parts or pieces. You can look for signs of wrecks or repairs, check the tires inspect under the hood for worn belts, hoses and dirty fluids. You must also take the car for a good long test drive to check it out on the road. Include some highway miles during this test drive and turn OFF the radio so you can hear the car. Make sure you check all of the electrical switches and interior components to make sure they finction as they should. Look under the car for leaks. Your focus needs to be on determining how well the previous owner cared for the car. If they took really good care of the car that’s a good sign. If the car looks abused or neglected you need to take that into consideration but you have to look well past the new wax job, the tire shine and the recently shampooed carpets.

The most important item is the mechanical condition of the car and the only way to do that is to have a professionally trained technician perform a thorough pre-purchase inspection.

Q: Where can I look for good used cars on the internet?
Can you guys recommend me some good websites where they have cheap used cars in good condition like under $5000, oh by the way I live in Canada, so Canadian websites only please, thanks.

A: autotrader.com
or you can try craigslist

Q: What are basic advantages of Buying Used USA Cars?
I have heard little advantage in buying used cars from USA. Most of them prefer to buy used cars because they are cheaper than new cars. But I want to know from your site.

A: Buying new is sometimes doubble the cost of a slightly usted used (same car) with miles in the teens. Buying a barely used vehicle is WAY smarter. Go to
www.autotrader.com or
www.cars.com & you’ll see them like half the cost than a new one. Let the first owner of the vehicles your looking at take the big deprecation loss not you!

I plan on importing a car in june or july to pay for my trip to whatever state I can find a car. What state do you suppose I can find quality used cars cheaper in ? Georgia , South Carolina , Florida , or North Carolina?

A: I would just go on Craigslist and there should be one for each state and you can look at all the used cars people post.

How do i determine used car value for cars that are on the road before the model year or after the model year.

I’m looking for value of a 06 model, that was on road starting 05, Jun. I got kelly blue book values but i believe they don’t look at when the car was sold. They only look for mileage, options and model.

Q: What should I look for in a new used car? Any particular cars?
I am getting another used car soon, with only 1300. I need the best that I can get because of my crappy paying job, so somthing to get to and from between college, work, and home. I know that wont get me an amazing car, but Im not interested in looks, just performance and reliability. Any suggestions? What should I really keep an eye out for and any cheap cars like that that you recommend?

Thanks to everyone!

A: 1988-92 VW Polo 1.0 litre, 1.1 or 1.3 or the VW Golf or Jetta (Golf with a boot) with up to a 1.3 engine. Buy service parts at GSF, buy an example with good service history, that hasn’t been standing, but has had regular use as a second car. Pay about 500 – 700 for an example with a fresh MOT.

I am interested in buying a used car. I only need it for about a year. I am looking for a car that would sell rather easy as I am going overseas for a while. So I am looking for a good car that would be popular so that I could sell it easier before I leave the country. So to narrow down my search I am looking for a list of What would currently be the best selling used cars in Australia?

A: falcon or commodore would be the cheapest by a country mile. however. resale value isn’t a strong point of these. something smaller like a corolla or mazda would be a good idea but they are dearer to buy in the first place.
