Does anyone know of a website where I can look to see what an 89 Chevy Cavalier looks like? Are they a good car? What kind of mileage is way to high for these kinds of cars?

I would not take this car at all. The car is a bad car to start with from new. The cars got better over the years. The cars engine is a problem having to replace a lot of parts. The cars have the look of a regular car and a hatchback.

I have a 2000 silver Cavalier. I hate the stupid thing. It always smells like something is overheating but I don’t know what and I don’t really have the money to afford to take it to a technician. I really want to sell it. It has a little rust and a few little tiny dents and is good on gas. How much do you think I could get for it if I sell it?

A: That is still low mileage, if it is overheating the easy fix is the thermostat, and maybe a radiator. Replace the thermostat first. You could probably get a few grand for it now that gas prices are up, but you have to fix what is wrong with it first. Best bet is to fix it and keep it unless you want a different car.

Not sure how close they are to yours, but I’d bet that they are pretty close. usually the stereo system wiring for a generation of cars is the same throughout the whole generation. looking at both of them there are some similarities so hopefully it helps you out

I was just wandering if I could put a 1998 cavalier motor in a newer or older cavalier. Or even possibly another type of chevy car.
A: The 1998 cavvy engine is an LD9 Quad 4, 2.4 L, if I’m correct (double check this on that engine to be sure I’m right).
Its a decent motor making something like 150 hp, with the potential for more (there’s hot rodding forums for the Quad 4)
The engine should be compatible with the 96 to 01 Cavvys, Sunfires, Grand Ams, and the 97-99 Malibu/Skylark.
Earlier models may be swap candidates, but be sure to swap over the engine/harness/trans/computer as a unit to reduce the headaches.
Q: Why is my 1988 Chevy Cavalier getting horrible gas mileage?
I have a 1988 Chevy Cavalier and am having trouble with the gas mileage. When I got the car a few months back it would get about 30 miles per gallon. Then one day the car began to idle really fast when it started and the gas mileage went down to about 20 miles per gallon. Changed the computer and the car stopped the fast idle but now it only gets about 10-12 miles per gallon. In no certain order I have changed the map sensor, throttle control sensor, Idle control sensor, heat and cool sensors, new spark plugs, new fuel filter, and new fuel pump. Someone told me if the catalytic converter was stopped up that could cause poor fuel economy but I had it tested by a mechanic and was told it was fine. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
The parts I changed weren’t all to try to fix the gas mileage problem. At first I was just trying to fix the fast idle. The car has 53000 miles on it. It is fuel injected. It has a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder automatic. There are no new noises from the engine. I ran a diagnostic test and get a code 42 which is Electronic Spark Timing or Bypass fault. Engine oil has just been changed 152 miles ago. There is no residue on the dipstick.
A: Check the fuel pressure and if possible hook up a scanner to the computer and read the O2 sensor to see if it is running rich. Could be worn injectors.

2003 chevy cavalier manual makes a noise like the power steering is going out (kinda like a whining weeeee thing) Its not the power steering, I thought it could be the flywheel and i have searched on the net but I cant find anything related to it, what else could it be?
A: if it is making that noise when your are turning only one way (it could do it only when u turn right or only when u turn left) it is your rack and pinoin but ifit does it when you turn right and left then it is your power steering pump but if it is doing in all the time it might be your alternator. try turning off your a/c and then listen if it stops its your compressor turn it of and on and listen for the noise. you said it is more of a whining noise so my guess would be a alternator

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier that shifts hard between gears. It has an electronically controlled 4 speed automatic transmission. What do I need to do to get it shifting smoothly like it was new? It usually shifts hard between 1-2 2-3 and slower speeds, but the car will “jump” if you punch the gas at any time. Do I just need to have the automatic transmission fluid changed or do I need to take it to a transmission place to have it adjusted?

A: ABS is a proven life saver and skid preventer. Why don’t you have someone teach you how to use them properly instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. When they ran tests with and without them, using professional drivers, the ABS won out every time, especially in bad weather conditions. If they’re malfunctioning get them fixed. They could save your life.

A: You have to remove the steering wheel and airbag (if equipped) and purchase the blinker part (cant think of the name right off the top of my head parts place will know what your talking about its a very common problem with GM’s in those years
