Q: I need a motor for my alero. Do I have to find a motor from an alero or can it come out of a different car?
I think it is 3.4 V6, but i cant find one out of an alero. I was wondering what other cars i might be able to find one in.
A: Oldsmobile shares common engines with Pontiac, Buick, and Chevrolet. All you need to know is front or rear drive, and if it is a 3.4 or a 3.8series 2.
Q: What is the average life span on a four cylinder alero?
I am in need of a new
“Used vehicle” I found a 1999 olds alero with about 150,000 miles. I talked to my brother in law and he saw the four cylinders don’t have life spans much more then that. Does any one else know or feel the same way about this. I am very curious? Thanks!
A: If they get driven hard. 100,000 miles.
If they get driven normally. 200,000 miles.
If they get driven very carefully, they could last a very very long time.
I don’t see why you brother thinks that 4 cylinder engines do not last long.
Honda is known for the best reliability and they mainly use 4 cylinder engines. Same with Toyota and Subaru. Mostly 4 cylinder engines and they all last very very very long. Longer than any V8 car would.
Q: What car makes, models and years are interchangeable with 2000 oldsmobile Alero?
I am looking to find out what cars (years models make etc.) are compatible with a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. I am concerned with what cars will have the same engine setup. I specifically need to replace the air intake box. I need the parts that enclose the air filter. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!
A: Well, it’s essentially a clone of the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am…
Q: How do I fix the cruise control button on my Oldsmobile Alero?
I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. My cruise control works, but I have to hold down the On/Off button to use it. I suspect that the button or something under it is broken.
If I try to take the button off myself, is it possible to set something off and deploy the airbag? Should I take it to an automotive shop or a dealer?
A: i don’t think that can be done alone , u’ll need some assistance , or better go to the dealer
Q: How do I disconnect hazard warning flasher on a 2002 olds alero?
I have a 2002 olds alero and I need to replace the hazard warning flasher located insider the dash. I can easily remove the dash trim and reach the flasher, but I cant get it disconnected. Is there a way I can remove it without doing damage. Or should I just take it to dealer and let them do it. If so, how much do you think it will cost to fix?
A: Look for any kind of plug retainer on the one in the car. Also look for a catch on the replacement. That said, I have never run across one that had a retainer. Usually its just a tight fit. Very gently, put the tip of a screw driver or butter knife between the the connector and the flasher and pry. Here comes the obligatory disclaimer. The potential, no matter how small exists that you may inadvertantly short out the circuit, by grounding out what you’re prying with.
Q: How much will it cost to fix my 2002 alero window?
I have a 2002 oldsmobile alero, recently the Passenger and driver window are not working the motor still works. The windows have regulators which are working fine the problem are the sash clips are broken I researched and found I can get the clips for 14 dollars how much should I expect to pay to get them installed and are they easy to install could my husband possibly do it?
A: maybe like 65 to do it and yes your husband can do it if i can do it. but i would rather pay to fix it so you wont break anything major that could end up costing you 400
Q: What is the best way to tow an Oldsmobile Alero?
I need to tow an Oldsmobile Alero about a half mile with a tow rope. Where is the best place on the front of the car to hook up the rope, tow the car, and not damage it?
We are going to tow it with a pickup truck, I think its like a GMC 6 cylinder. I’m more concerned as to where I should put the tow strap on the car.
A: What kind of car are you going to use?
Q: What other engine will work for a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero?
I need a new engine in my Alero. It has a 3400. It is a 6 cylinder. I want everything to be able to hook back up without any major rearranging. I need it to fit on the engine block/mount. I do not want to get another block/mount. What other year, make and model will work for my car?
A: The Pontiac Grand Am is it’s sister. The engine should drop right in. Look for a 1999 or newer. There may have been some minor changes starting in 2002. There was a lot of these cars produced, I would think used engines would easily be available.
Q: What would i need to make my automatic 2003 olds alero a standard?
Can anyone help me figure out all of the parts i need to make my automatic alero a standard? ovbviously the standard tranny and i know the clutch pedal, cable, flywheel and stuff but i know there is a lot more! if you know anyone or anywhere i can contact for the parts and info i need that’d be great! im in the N.H. area by the way!
A: you will also need the clutch itself, the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, hydraulic lines, and the interior will probably have to be modified for the shifter. Remember that nobody makes parts for conversions like this so you will have to get creative.
Q: How to replace the door handle trim on 2003 Oldsmobile Alero 2dr?
The exterior plastic trim surrounding the door handle on my 2003 Olds Alero is cracked, and I would like instructions on removing the door panel to replace it (attempted theft – cracked it with a screwdriver). I need to do this with the passenger and driver side doors. Where can I find instructions? Do I have to replace lock as well or is the door handle trim a separate piece?
A: That trim is part of the door handle assy. You will need to have a GM dealer order the left and right outside door handles. While your at a GM dealer you can ask the service dept shop foreman for all data copies of the correct procedures to remove and replace your door handles. The all data info will show you step by step on what your going to have to do.Your door locks will be transfered into your new door handles.Best of luck with your alero.

I have a 2003 alero and I was wondering how i’m going to have to install it. It has a theft lock in the head unit, is this going to be a problem or what can I do to make it work. Also is the 2003 Alero a double din unit or will a single din work just fine?
A: it could before you remove your stock unit call your local dealer (easiest) or look online for the proper code if you do not it could lock up your vehicle
Q: How to determine the colors for connecting the wires to the heated seats button on a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero?
I had found the button to my heated seat in my 2003 Alero under the seat and there are five wires that connect to the six posts on the back of the button. I need help determing what posts the wires connect to.
A: Go to your local junk yard and find a similar car. Pull the same cable out and write down the colored wire connections or simply cut the switch (“button”) off with several inches of the colored wire attached and buy the used switch as a replacement if you need one.

Auto zone sells a hazard warning flasher for a 2002 olds alero. Price is around nine dollars. According to a repair manual the flasher can not be replaced on this model and year. Instead entire flasher switch must be replaced. Is this true or can I replace hazard flasher only?
